ASM SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES

The Australian Society for Microbiology (ASM) is active across social media, including Twitter, BlueSky, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and through our website and Microbiology Australia. We encourage delegates to share insights, connect, and highlight exciting scientific developments - while respecting privacy and professional boundaries.

During ASM conferences, many speakers present novel research that may not yet be published. Sharing your conference experience is encouraged - but always respect speaker requests. Posting data without consent may affect journal publication and scientific progress.

We encourage attendees to interact online by:

Tip: All talks are “bloggable” and “tweetable” by default. Session chairs will provide clear instructions if a speaker requests certain content not be shared.

🚫 Do Not

  • Record or reproduce audio, video, or photos from oral or poster sessions without the presenter’s permission.

  • Share research or personal data without consent.

  • Use rude, profane, or offensive language to attack or slander others online.

🤝 Shared Responsibility

Local Organising Committee (LOC) will:

  • Obtain consent from speakers for recordings, slide sharing, and social media posts.

  • Inform attendees of speaker preferences at the start of sessions.

  • Monitor ASM social media and respond to non-compliance.

Speakers are encouraged to:

  • Remind attendees of sharing preferences at the start of their talks.

  • Mark slides clearly if content should not be shared online.

Attendees must:

  • Read and follow this policy.

  • Refrain from posting content from oral and poster sessions without consent.

  • Follow speaker instructions regarding social media sharing.
