A/Prof Kefyalew Alene

Associate Professor Kefyalew Addis Alene is an infectious disease epidemiologist at Curtin University and Head of the Geospatial and Tuberculosis (GeoTB) Research Team at The Kids Research Institute Australia. His research focuses on applying advanced spatial and Bayesian modelling methods to quantify the hidden burden of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, supporting precision public health approaches that enable geographically targeted interventions and more efficient disease surveillance systems. He has published more than 165 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals, and his work has directly informed WHO policy and national tuberculosis control strategies. He has received several national awards, including the Rising Star Award from the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) and the WA Tall Poppy Science Award. Associate Professor Alene is a current Stan Perron Fellow, a former NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow, and a Visiting Scientist at Harvard University. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University (2019), as well as an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (2012) and a BSc in Public Health (2010) from the University of Gondar, Ethiopia.
