A/ Prof Julian Cox
University of New South Wales, Australia
Julian completed his BSc, Hons and PhD in microbiology at UQ many (many!) years ago. After a brief stint in industry, and a postdoc at UQ, he joined UNSW as a researcher and then as academic staff. He quickly became involved in teaching and learning innovation, across technology, and professional skills and identity, as well as governance, as part of a professional program in food science and technology. His teaching has spanned his background discipline, as well as skills and identity, and has been well recognised through receipt of several awards, including ASM’s David White Award. His governance activities culminated in a 7-year tenure as Associate Dean (Education) in UNSW Science. Though semi-retired, he still undertakes a range of roles, particularly in relation to food safety and consumer-facing communication. He was the primary creator, in 2020, of the course GSOE9410 Professional Development for Emerging Engineering Educators, a course now in its sixth iteration, and the subject of a session at EduCon 2026.
