A/Prof Derek Sarovich co-leads The Pathogen-Omics lab within the Centre for Bioinnovation at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His research focus is on combining high-throughput sequencing technologies, ‘omics’ approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics, metataxonomics, and metatranscriptomics), and PCR diagnostics to better understand the evolution, population diversity, phylogenomics, transmission, pathogenesis, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of microbial pathogens and their closest genetic relatives in humans, animals, and the environment.
